La's Lee Mavers, Carl Barat, Jon McClure play house gig

Musicians club together for Instigate Debate
Musicians including The La's Lee Mavers, Carl Barat, Babyshambles' Drew McConnell, Reverend And The Makers' Jon McClure and Baaba Maal played an impromptu house party gig early this morning (May 27) in London.

The gig was in aid of Instigate Debate project - see footage of the show by clicking below.

The musicians had earlier attended a debate at London's Boogaloo pub, which saw McClure, 'EastEnders' actress Melissa Suffield (who plays Lucy Beale) and Karen Buck (MP for Regent's Park and Kensington North) discuss questions from the audience on subjects including police brutality and ID cards.

After wrapping up the debate the musicians headed off to play a secret gig in the front room of a previous Instigate Debate attendee who had won the chance to host the gig for previously putting Ken Livingstone on-the-spot for an interview.

Schoolgirl Hannah Webb's Hammersmith front room played host to the musicians, who were watched by a gaggle of her friends and family.

McConnell kicked off proceedings shortly after 1am (BST), playing Babyshambles' 'Killamangiro' and thanking Webb's parents for hosting the party.

Other highlights included Barat playing The Libertines' 'Time For Heroes' and 'Can't Stand Me Now', The La's Lee Mavers playing an acoustic version of 'Feelin'' and a performance by Baaba Maal.

Barat's protégé Kieran Leonard also played (introduced by McConnell as "looking like Kurt Cobain but sounding like Bob Dylan"), as did McClure and The Lost Brothers, who feature former members of The 747's and The Basement.

After the performances McClure told NME.COM that he wants to repeat the process at the next, as-yet-unscheduled Instigate Debate night.
